Romanian object pronouns: clitics, pe and pronoun doubling

Understand Romanian direct and indirect clitic pronouns, their position around verbs and why some noun objects appear twice grammatically.

Romanian object clitics are short pronoun forms attached to the verbal structure. Their form and placement depend on direct versus indirect function, person, number and verb construction.

Direct and indirect functions

Direct-object forms answer who or what is affected; indirect forms commonly identify a recipient or experiencer. Begin with one pronoun at a time in frequent patterns such as seeing someone, giving something and liking something.

Pe with specific human objects

Specific personal direct objects commonly take pe: O văd pe Ana. The clitic o and full noun phrase can co-occur. This doubling is grammatical structure, not careless repetition.

Position changes with the verb phrase

Clitics normally precede a finite verb but interact with compound forms, imperatives and combinations. Learn placement through complete affirmative and negative examples before compressing the system into a chart.
