Romanian A1 and A2: skills, grammar and a study roadmap
Translate beginner CEFR labels into practical Romanian speaking, listening, reading and writing abilities with a balanced plan.
A1 Romanian supports basic interaction with help; A2 expands routine exchanges and simple connected descriptions. Neither level is defined by one vocabulary count or app streak.
A1 as communicative action
Practise identity, greetings, numbers, basic needs, directions and supported questions. Build sound–spelling, present tense, elementary articles and frequent să frames around these tasks.
What A2 adds
Handle shopping, transport, housing, family, work and simple past events. Understand the main point of short clear messages and write connected everyday notes. Add pronouns, case patterns and connectors as tasks require them.
Assess all four skills
Every week include listening, reading, a recorded interaction and a short text. Reuse one topic across skills, obtain feedback and repeat comparable tasks monthly. Lesson completion alone cannot reveal spontaneous availability.

How long does A1 to A2 take?
Prior languages, contact hours, consistency, input and interaction create large differences; avoid universal fluency deadlines.
Is there an official Romanian A2 exam?
Institutions and offerings change. Consult the Romanian Language Institute or authorised providers for current levels and sessions.
Can self-study reach A2?
It can contribute substantially, but regular listening, interaction and feedback strengthen balanced ability.
