How to learn Romanian: a sustainable 12-week study plan
Build a twelve-week Romanian routine balancing pronunciation, structured grammar, retrieval, listening, reading and conversation.
A successful Romanian plan repeats a small set of behaviours: coherent study, spaced retrieval, understandable input, regular production and feedback.
Weeks 1–4: establish the system
Train diacritics and sound–spelling, greetings, questions, present-tense essentials and high-frequency frames. Study five days in short sessions and begin each session by retrieving earlier language without looking.
Weeks 5–8: widen daily situations
Add articles, plural patterns, common case functions, compound past and everyday services. Record one minute of speech twice weekly and improve the second attempt after focused feedback.
Weeks 9–12: connect ideas
Practise longer listening, short narratives, opinions and repair strategies. Complete one live interaction weekly. At week twelve, repeat an early speaking and listening task, compare evidence and design the next cycle around observed gaps.
Questions learners ask
Frequently asked questions
How many minutes per day should I study?
Twenty to forty-five focused minutes is workable for many adults, but consistent high-quality tasks matter more than one prescribed total.
When should I begin speaking?
Begin short supported production immediately and increase complexity as comprehension grows.
Should I study every grammar topic in twelve weeks?
No. Prioritise systems that support your most frequent communicative tasks and revisit them across contexts.
